Slow Cooked BBQ Sausage

This is how to cook BBQ in a heat wave. It is just too darn hot to grill or heat up the oven every day. This is a good way to have a BBQ in the cool indoors.

Slow cooked sliced BBQ sausage served on a white plate.

2-3 lbs smoked turkey sausage (you can also use beef or pork)

Poke a few holes in the sausage with a fork before placing in zipper bag.

1 C. ketchup
½ C. water
3 T apple cider vinegar
3 T brown sugar
3 T white sugar
1 t dry mustard
1 t lemon juice
1 t Worcestershire sauce
Pepper to taste (We like lots of pepper)

If you like it spicy add 1 T chipotle in adobo.

Place all ingredients in a large zipper bag until ready to cook.

To Cook: Pour into slow cooker and cook on low for 5-6 hours.

You can easily make this a layered meal with foil wrapped corn cobs and a can of your favorite baked beans.  To cook the foil wrapped corn, place a piece of foil on top of sausage and place corn on top to cook along with sausage.
