Remove and chop mushroom stems and place in a bowl. Mix in sauce, onion, garlic, and salt and pepper. Stuff mixture evenly into each mushroom cap.
Place mushroom caps in a baking dish sprinkle with cheese. Cook at 375 (covered) for 20 minutes or until mushrooms are tender. Remove cover and cook about 5 additional minutes or until cheese begins to brown.
Serve with salad.
